What Is Calibration?

Battery calibration is the process of reconditioning the battery as it was new and making the operating system read the battery capacity as it should. From several sources mention that calibration is needed every few months, after an iOS upgrade or if you feel there is something strange about battery performance.

How to Calibrate iPhone Battery

Simply put, the way to calibrate the iPhone battery is just like draining the bathtub, refilling it to the full, and ready to use. Yes, it's that easy.

The following is a guide to calibrating iPhone batteries:


  1. Use the iPhone as usual, spend the battery until the device turns off automatically.
  2. Let the iPhone stand with an empty battery for at least 2 hours. This step is done to ensure all electricity has stopped, the battery is empty and cold.
  3. Connect the iPhone device to the data cable and power adapter to charge the battery.
  4. The iPhone device will turn on automatically when charging the battery. Try not to use the device while charging for up to 1 hour after reaching 100%.

Unfortunately Apple doesn't have a display or description that you have successfully calibrated the iPhone battery.

What Is a Battery Cycle Count?

A Cycle Count or battery charge cycle is calculated from the condition of the battery running out (0%) until it is fully charged (100%).

Another example is charging the iPhone from 50% to 100%, then revoking it. After that it is used again up to 50% and then re-sided up to 100%, which means that 1 Cycle Count has been done. What is the importance of knowing the Cycle Count? Normal batteries can maintain Battery Health above 80% in conditions below 500 Cycle Count.

So if your iPhone is still below 300 Cycle Count, for example and Battery Health that appears is 70%, this condition is not normal.

How to See iPhone Battery Cycle Count

Unfortunately Apple doesn't provide iPhone battery Cycle Count information on iOS. You must use third-party applications or computer assistance, for example Coconut Battery.


  1. Install Coconut Battery on a Mac computer.
  2. Connect the iOS device to the computer.
  3. Open Coconut Battery and go to the iOS Device tab. At the bottom there is Cycle Count information.
