5 Due to Broken Engine Mounting + How to Anticipate itEngine mounting is made as a engine vibration damper, the goal is that the vibration generated by the engine is not felt by the driver and passenger inside the cabin. But in the application, engine mounting can also act like a suspension for the engine when the car passes an uneven road. The engine which also has a fairly heavy weight, will rock and shake when the car body sways.

This will speed up damage to engine mounting. Then what are the effects or effects when the engine mounting is damaged?

Effect of Broken Mounting Engine

Engine mounting made of rubber with cast steel frames. This rubber material can be brittle so that rubber mounting can break. This is what causes the engine mounting to be damaged. The result will be like this

1. Vibration from the engine that is quite felt

Because the main function of engine mounting is to reduce engine vibration, it is certain when mounting damaged engine vibration will definitely be more pronounced.

The vibration that is felt not only comes from the engine combustion, but also comes from the transmission. The engine and transmission are connected, so that when the engine is rocking then the transmission is too. This will increase the vibration that feels.

2. The radiator / fan grid will be damaged

For cars that still use belt-based fans (non-electric fans) such as diesel-engined cars, the location of the fan is on the engine while the electric fan, the fan is placed in the radiator. On the non-electric fan because it is located on the engine, then when the engine sways the fan also sways.

As a result the fan has the potential to swipe the radiator grille.

This of course will cause two things, first the radiator grille is damaged so the radiator leaks and the two fan leaves will be broken so that the engine cooling will be disrupted.

3. The fuel hose will be disrupted

The fuel hose is used to deliver fuel from the tank to the engine. This means that this hose connects the engine parts that are rocking with the tank that is stationary in the body of the car. This will cause an effect as if the gas hose was shaking. When one is twice it might not be a problem but if many times this can make the gas hose leak, break or even detach.

So the effect is quite dangerous too.

4. The radiator hose has the potential to leak

This case is also almost the same as the one above, where when the engine sways the hose is shaken because this hose connects the engine part and the radiator that is still in the body of the car.

As a result, the hose connection can be loose and radiator water can leak from this connection.

This is also quite dangerous because when the cooling water leaks, the engine has the potential to overheat.

5. Dangerous for components around the engine that potentially hit the body of the car

Examples of components attached to the engine are alternators, starter motors, and AC compressors. When mounting normally, the engine shake is not too large so that the components are still safe from impact.

But when the engine shake is too large, these components have the potential to hit the body so that it can damage the components.

What is the solution so that the consequences above do not occur?

The consequences above of course you can experience if you do not immediately replace the engine mounting when detected damage. To detect damage, there are signs or traits that you can observe. One of them was related to the abnormal vibration, besides that, there was also the sound of the engine when the engine was started.

If the sign has appeared, try to shake the machine using your hand. If the engine is easily shaken, the engine mounting is damaged and requires that it be replaced immediately.
