1. The piston ring is worn (worn)


The most common cause of white smoke is because the ring is hit. The piston ring is divided into two types, namely the compression ring and oil ring. The compression ring serves to close the gap between the piston and cylinder block so that the compression pressure does not leak while the oil ring functions to prevent oil from the crank chamber from entering the combustion chamber.

The shape of the ring is not perfectly round, but there is a gap. This gap allows the ring to enter the combustion chamber. But if the two rings wear and tear, the ring gap will expand. As a result, oil from the oil tank can easily enter the combustion chamber.

Usually there are other symptoms that follow it such as reduced engine power or a difficult engine to turn on in the morning.

The solution, you have to replace a set of piston rings to deal with this smoke. How to replace it is also not easy, because the piston ring is located in the heart of the engine. To make a replacement, the engine must be disassembled or overhouled.

2. Linner / cylinder engine hit (worn)


The second problem is also still related to the first cause. But the problem this time is not the piston ring, but the cylinder wall or linner.

3. Valve seals leak

Apart from inside the engine, the factors that can cause oil to enter the combustion chamber are from the upper engine components. The valve or valve functions as a door that is tasked with entering air for engine combustion and regulating the exhaust gas from the combustion engine (intake and exhaust).

Each valve has a seal that prevents oil from leaking into the manifold. But due to usage factors, this seal can experience hardening which decreases the power of the meeting. So that oil can enter easily into the manifold and enter the engine.

The fix, is to replace the valve seal with a new one.

4. The valve stem is bent


The valve stem is an iron rod that connects the valve to the cam section. That is, in this rod lies the support of the cam when pressing the valve. In the normal position, the valve stem must be 100% straight without the slightest bend.

What happens if it is bent?

5. The valve is blocked / Installation is incorrect


If this case is exactly the same as the one above, the difference is that this is due to an error in installing the valve. In the DOHC system, even though the intake valve is the same, the position of the two intake valves cannot be swapped.

When exchanged, there is potential for leakage because the valve seat and valve leaf are not suitable. To overcome this, we actually only need to wipe the valve so that the valve seat can match.

6. Packing the cylinder head is broken


The cylinder head packing is located in the middle of the cylinder block connection and cylinder head. its function as sealing, both the combustion chamber seal so that the compression pressure is not lost, also to close the oil line from the oil bath to the cylinder head.

From here, imagine what happens if it turns out the packing surface is damaged. Compression pressure can leak, and oil can also flow off the track. If the oil flows out of the engine then the smoke is normal, but there is a lot of oil seepage on the engine surface.

But if the oil leads to the combustion chamber, the exhaust fumes can be a bit blue white (depending on the quantity of oil entering).

If this happens, then there are other symptoms such as you will see the engine parts of the motor that are always dirty and there is oil seepage. Besides that, there is usually a rather rough voice.

The solution, is to replace the cylinder head packing with a new one.

7. The oil used is too runny


It sounds a bit strange, but oil that is too runny just makes the oil can enter small cracks in the engine. Normally, the machine will provide data on technical specifications including SAE oil used.

This is important because SAE also affects the oil's ability to lubricate small gaps. If the machines now are made from aluminum, the gap is very small so using SAE 0W oil is also not a problem.

But for old motorcycles, especially motorcycles designed for tropical countries are usually suitable to use oil with SAE 20W and above. If you use single grade SAE 0W oil, the oil can actually enter the combustion chamber through the piston ring gap even though the ring or cylinder is not worn out.

But for SAE 0W-20 multi grade oil it can still be used because there is a viscosity index improver that can regulate oil viscosity based on temperature / climate.

This problem occurs when your motorbike suddenly comes out of white smoke after an oil change. The solution, replace your motorbike oil with the appropriate spec (SAE that fits with SAE recommendations).

8. Effect of exhaust

The cause of another smoky white motor can also come from the exhaust itself.
